Directions
Before using the deShedding tool, perform a complete physical inspection of your pet.
If you see tangles or matting in his coat, go to a grooming salon for a professional treatment before using the deShedding tool.
Look for sores, bruises and skin conditions, which may require treatment from a veterinarian before deShedding.
Use the deShedding tool much like a brush and gently stroke across the pet’s coat in the direction of hair growth, angling the stainless steel teeth of the deShedding edge toward the coat. Start from the head and work your way back, using extra care near the pet’s stomach, legs, genitals and anus. Avoid making excessive strokes in a single area. Instead use long, gentle strokes up and away from your pet’s skin. Deep or rough brushing can cause your pet’s skin to become red and irritated,so do not apply too much weight or downward pressure. If you notice any redness or irritation, discontinue use.

a5bClaire, I'm glad your collie is doing beettr, we had our 7 mo. old rough collie spayed almost 2 weeks ago and the following day you never would have known anything happened. A little advice regarding the cone, as our girl HATED and I mean, really hated that cone, and also became a little nippy and aggressive over it, hooking her mouth under it and literally thrashing on the ground when it was on. After considering the soft comfy cones we decided to stick with the traditional kind as they are transparent, allowing the dog it's peripheral vision. We had to leave it on 24/7 for the first 2 days because she was fretting over the incision area and worse, she would reach to scratch it with her hind foot while standing, so we bought her little booties that she had to wear on her back feet. She was a real site for awhile and very upset but we couldn't risk her injuring herself. I seriously felt like the days of this would never end! Fortunately, my BF and I were both on vacation while she healed, so around the 3rd day, we left the cone and booties off when we were home and never let her out of our sight. At night though, they had to go back on when she went in her crate. I bought her very long bully sticks that she could eat with the cone on and held them for her many times, sat on the floor a lot and gave her lots of extra encouragement. The first day was the worst but once we started taking it off regularly, it seemed to help her understand that it wasn't permanent but it did however, make her start to use the cone like a plow when she was wearing it, bashing it into everything. We took her on lots of extra walks to help spend her energy, since she couldn't play with other dogs or go to the park to run and that also helped a lot. Also, we live upstairs and were afraid that going up & down would be difficult for her so we made a litter box for her on our deck. We bought a large under-bed storage box from Ikea and sod from a home improvement store and made her a yard so she only had to walk a few feet to pee. This is also what we used to potty train her when she was very young and it worked great and was much less expensive than the potty patch that you can buy in a store. After the sod is soiled a few times, you just throw it out and replace it if you like, after giving the plastic container a good rinse. This could also work for those who are in snowy climates, although I don't know if they would have sod available this time of year as we do here in California. I hope this helped some of you.

Review by Katy Lake for Rating: And I say it as an expert on just about any pcoudrt that promises to reduce pet hair shedding, or make the clean up of it easier.I have a Norwegian Elkhound, one very compact, highly intelligent, gorgeous and HAIRY dog. She has both a long coat and a very prolific downy white undercoat that seemingly sheds 24/7. It's got a cotton ball texture; tufts of it stick out, and if you pull it, you get a pouf of very soft white down that is guaranteed to stick to you and everything in its path.My former regimen was to use a rubber curry brush for the long outer coat, and (the part I hate), an undercoat rake. No matter how much I brush her, I'm covered with hair, and there's a grocery bag FULL of hair. It's an hour to two hour task, and as much as I love my dog, a huge, hairy nuisance! When I got the Furminator, I was impressed with the heft of it. I bought the large size with the idea that it'd be that much less effort (generally speaking, the small size is the cheapest, but it's so small, it would take forever on anything but the smallest or unhairiest dog. And the difference in price between the medium and large is, at most places, only a few bucks. If you're going to invest in the furminator, go for the size that makes the most out of every pass over the dog's coat.)So I tried a few swoops on the dog. And yeah, it resulted in a ton of hair, but if I just run my fingers through her coat, I get pretty much the same result.I got a grocery bag (to store the hair pulled off the comb) and set to work. On the initial combing, it took a little less than the usual hour it does. What was interesting, though, is that I used only the Furminator, not the undercoat rake and curry comb combo I usually use. In that sense, it was less time and effort. The bag, as usual, was full. But the thing that really sold me on the Furminator is how good her coat looked. Very professional looking, like she had just gotten back from the groomer's. Now it's a few days later, and lo and behold, one of the promises the maker of the Furminator made seems to actually be true: there is less loose hair on her. Usually I see long hairs and some of those fluffy white tufts peeking up, but that's not the case after her de-Furmination. NO loose hair, no undercoat tufts! I can say that, based on me trying just about every comb, method, and grooming device, this is the first time my dog's been this relatively hairless since I got her. The Furminator promises that there will be less of a hair problem with its use. All I can say is that based on one thorough use of it, that claim seems to be true. I'd recommend it (and it does have a 30 day money-back guarantee from the manufacturer.) The only reason why I'm not five-starring this is because of the price. I still don't see why it's so expensive, and I got a good price on it w/shipping (I paid $40 and that's still too much!) I'm also worried about the cost of replacement blades for this. There's simply no reason it should cost so much!I'd also recommend you shop around for price. I got the best deal on this (including shipping) from an ebay store (not a regular auction.) Just beware the shipping prices on places that seem to be cheap.

I use HeartGuard for my dog, and a six-month supply is only about $45 from my vet so I don't think that is too bad. As for Frontline, that seems to be expniseve everywhere. Since my pampered dog is mostly indoors, I don't get too carried away with flea prevention meds. Not to mention, there is snow on the ground six months out of the year here. I just buy three-month doses of BioSpot at the store for about $20. If my lifestyle changes and I need to keep him on it for six months or more, I will definitely be more likely to look for the best deals online.

One of the side effects of laser hair reomval are burns. While burns are not always part of the treatments, on very sensitive skin, major burning can occur. Because you are trying to get hair removed in such a sensitive area, I would look into all possible side effects. If you think you can stand any of them on your genitals for ever treatment (there are usually several), then maybe this is okay for you. But for most people, I would say leave the hair or find a different solution.

The FURminator deShedding Solution is great. It works great for all dogs and cats that shed. For certain dogs, you have to use this every other week. My two Jack Russells shed a lot. I niotce when I bathe them and use the deshedding solution, their shedding is greatly diminished. I would highly recommend this product.
